Happy New Year

I hope 2023 was a great year for all of you.  Hunting season is about to wrap up. I hope you all found success. Pheasant numbers seemed to be great. I hunted some of our public land last weekend and the number of birds we saw was fantastic. My deer season was definitely more downs than ups, but I guess that’s why they call it hunting and not shooting. I’ve heard mixed reports on deer numbers from hunters in the area. Numbers of mature deer seemed to be down in the area’s I have been hunting.  I think last winter was hard on the herd which is a good reminder of how important the habitat that we all have been working to preserve and increase is.

This year’s kids’ events were a great success. Be sure to encourage youth to attend these events, especially those who have not been introduced to the outdoors before!    Remember any kids that attend the banquet will be given a ticket to be entered into a special drawing at the Outdoor Skills Day. Odds are typically pretty good in that drawing.

  • Outdoor skills day was once again a ton of fun. It took a few days for my old dog to recover after spending an entire day retrieving for groups of 10-20 kids at the waterfowl station I led.  It’s always exciting to see kids get introduced to the outdoors especially the ones who have never had the opportunity before. If you are looking for a way to get involved while only giving up one day please reach out to me or Sunday Ford. I guarantee you will enjoy it as much as the kids!
  • I was unable to attend  Kids Fishing Day, but the board members who volunteered said there were lots of smiles and it was the first time catching fish for some of the atendees.
  •  Thanks to the Sioux County Conservation Board and all the volunteers for putting on these events.

Land Update

The tract of land adjoining Oak Grove that was purchased this spring is now open for hunting. Pheasant hunting on this tract is by reservation. You can make reservations online through Sioux County parks. We have couple of other tracts we are currently working on.

Thank YOU FOR ANOTHER GREAT YEAR

Thanks to your support we were able to assist in the purchase of over 100 acres of now public hunting land again this year.
