July 2024 Newsletter
Greetings Outdoorsmen! I would like to start by thanking you for all the generous support SCSC has received again this year.
This year’s kids’ events were a great success. Be sure to encourage youth to attend these events, especially those who have not been introduced to the outdoors before!
- Outdoor Skills Day went great. It is awesome to see so many kids interested in wanting to learn different skills for the outdoors and thanks to all of the Volunteers who made it possible.
- Kids Fishing clinic Was rescheduled due to rain and then canceled due to more rain and flooding.
- Thanks to the Sioux County Conservation Board and all the volunteers for putting on Outdoor Skills Day and all of the cleanup that has been done.
Land Update
We are currently working on several tracts of land. With all of the recent flooding I think people are seeing the need for land management practices that positively affect water runoff. This may create some unique opportunities to purchase land that may not have been otherwise available.

Western Iowa Deer Herd Meeting
Myself and a few other board members attended a meeting this week regarding the declining deer numbers in Western Iowa. There was a lot of information and ideas shared but I am going to focus on the things that applied to Sioux County. According to the biologist the reason for the decline is a combination of doe harvest and habitat loss. There is currently no regulations changed for Sioux County, however we as hunters may want to consider not harvesting as many does for the next couple of years to help the herd recover.
Awards
Congratulations to Henry Byl on receiving the Legendary Sportsmen Award.
Congratulations to Weston Hoogendoorn and Anaka Dekkers on earning the scholarships.
Be sure to encourage your kids to apply for the Scholarships, and also don’t forget to nominate anyone worthy of the legendary sportsmen award.
