Greetings to all outdoorsmen and women!

   This coming year, 2019,  will mark the 22nd year for the Sioux County Sportsmen’s Club. Another year is just about to pass again. 2018 has shaped up to be another great year for Sioux County with all the improvements and developments happening.   It is very exciting to see all of the improvements and updates being done throughout the entire county to the parks and public grounds for the enjoyment of everyone to be able to enjoy the outdoors. By your support as members, sponsors, businesses and individual donors  we can continue to preserve the future for our youth to enjoy the outdoors. Thanks to everyone for your support.

  The Sioux County Sportsmen’s club held there annual kids events again this summer.                                                                        

  • At the Outdoor Skills Day this year there were 196 kids, 75 adults and 40 volunteers attending.  SCSC gave out many prizes including 10 air rifles and bb guns as well as a youth rifle and shotgun.
  • This year at the Kids Fishing Day at Sandy Hollow there were about 70 people attending. SCSC gave out prizes for the most fish, biggest fish and the casting contest.  
  • Thanks to the Sioux County Conservation Board and all the volunteers for putting on these events.

Land Update  

   More public ground. Another piece of property has been added to a Sioux County public wildlife area. This piece adds 15.6 acres to the Rock Wildlife Area just west of Rock Valley  north of the walk trail. Thanks to all of you who enjoy the outdoors that make this possible. Your support helps with this and future projects.

   The Sioux County Conservation Officers have been stocking some of our local ponds again this year with funding help from the Sioux County Sportsmen’s Club. Big Sioux Rec Area – 700 crappie and 75 bluegill. Sandy Hollow – 550 crappie, 150 perch, 100 bluegill, 75 catfish. Winterfeld Pond – 250 crappie, 50 perch, 25 bluegill, 25 catfish.

  The Sioux County Nature Center construction has started. Dirtwork was completed in October. The footings have been poured,light form walls and block laying is taking place. Construction will continue through the winter. It will take about 1 year to complete putting completion at next  winter. Fundraising is still needed to cover exhibits and details that will make this building an attraction for all.

Gun Calendar – Help Double the money

   You don’t want to miss on this years calendar! $500 Gift Cards.  This year in the calendar there will be 32 guns and 20 Scheels Gift Cards of $500.  Drawings will be every Wednesday throughout the year for the item on that date.    (*a cash buyout of gun can be redeemed in its place). This is a joint effort between the Sioux County Sportmen’s Club and Pheasants Forever Chapter #36 going into a separate fund which can be doubled making every $35 purchase of a calendar turn into $70.  Contact any board member from SCSC or go to our website for local businesses that carry the calendars. You can also purchase these through eventbrite when you purchase banquet tickets.  **Calendars will be sold until they are gone. Thank you to all of the business card sponsor for your support in this fund raiser and to all who purchase calendars.

Banquet

  Save the date. March 9 2019. The 22nd annual Sioux County Sportsmen’s Club banquet will be held on March 9 2019 at the Dordt Rec Center. The planning for this event is well under way by the board. Once again there will be many items given away along with a nice selection of auction items. Invite your family, friends, co-workers, date. Everyone is welcome.  Help us make this major fundraising event for our county conservation a huge success.

 * The Legendary Sportsman Award will once again be awarded during our banquet. There are many deserving people that could receive this award, but we need you to nominate them. If you have someone in mind to nominate, please fill out a nomination form found on our website (www.siouxcsc.org). The forms must be postmarked no later than February 1, 2019.

Hello to everyone from the Board of the Sioux County Sportsmen’s Club.  Once again this past year has been an exciting year for everyone in Sioux County.

First of all we would like to thank everyone who has been a part of the Sioux County Sportsmen’s club.  Thank you to all the members, sponsors, businesses, volunteers and board members for supporting this organization so we can continue to help improve and expand on all of the wildlife areas in our county. With all of your help this will insure to our kids and generations to come the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors.

Banquet information

  1. The 21st annual banquet was held on March 10. Once again this was a very successful banquet which cleared around $56,500.
  2. Honoring our Veterans. One item in the live auction this year was a Sig 1911 MIA-POW .5 cal. Handgun. It was decided to have all of the proceeds of this handgun and all donations from individuals go to Midwest Honor Flight chapter. Midwest Honor Flight is an organization taking Veterans for a special day  of touring Washington D.C. The total of all the proceeds and donations was $4,500.
  3. Next year the Banquet is set for March 9 2019 at the Dordt Rec Center.

Outdoor Skills Day

This years outdoor skills day will be held on June 7, from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Oak Grove. There is a noon lunch provided. This day is open to all ages. There are different sessions to choose from….shotgun shooting, air rifles, archery, outdoor cooking, improving outdoor skills and much more. You must pre-register by calling Sunday Ford (712-552-3057).

Family Fishing Clinic

This event, sponsored by Sioux County Conservation Board and the Sioux County Sportsmen’s Club will be held on Saturday, June 9, from 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Sandy Hollow fishing pond. Come for a fun filled morning of fishing instruction. There will be prizes!! Bring your own pole. **There will be some available if you don’t have one. Lunch will be provided at noon for those who participate. To register please call Sunday Ford (712-552-3057).

Amazon Smile

 For everyone purchasing items on Amazon you can go to Amazon Smile (everything the same as Amazon) and purchase your items. The Sioux County Sportsmen’s Club is listed as a non profit organization under Amazon Smile. With every purchase you make and list SCSC as the non profit, 0.5% of each purchase will go to SCSC.  Keep this in mind for your next purchase.

Calendars

We still have calendars available to purchase if you are interested. Go on the website at www.siouxcsc.org to purchase or contact one of the board members listed below. As a reminder, each calendar sold will be tied to a specific number. Each week of the year a number will be drawn to win that week’s gun. Each calendar can be purchased for $35. Calendars will be sold until we are out of them.

Also we are getting the 2019 calendars started. If anyone is interested in being a sponsor on the calendar please contact one of our board members asap. The 2019 Calendar will have some nice changes in it. They should be available sometime in August. Website again is www.siouxcsc.org .

Land Update

The land acquisition committee is staying in contact with some individuals on a piece of property coming available. This will be a nice addition to an existing public access area.

Greetings to all outdoorsmen and women!

 

This past year, 2017, marked the 20th anniversary of the Sioux County Sportsmen’s Club. Going into the 21st year, many exciting things have happened and are developing in Sioux County. It is very exciting to see all of the improvements and updates being done throughout the entire county to the parks and public grounds for the enjoyment of everyone to be able to enjoy the outdoors. By your support as members, sponsors, businesses and individual donors  we can continue to preserve the future for our youth to enjoy the outdoors. Thanks to everyone for your support.

Again this year we held the kids events that were a great success.

  • At the Outdoor Skills Day this year the were 209 kids attending. It is awesome to see so many kids interested in wanting to learn different skills for the outdoors.
  • This year at the Kids Fishing Day at Sandy Hollow there were 60 kids attending. Again there were a lot of nice fish caught this year with the largest being an 18” bass.
  • Thanks to the Sioux County Conservation Board and all the volunteers for putting on these events.

Land Update

Again this year the Sioux County Conservation Board has been busy stocking our local ponds with funding help by the Sioux County Sportmen’s Club.  Winterfeld boating and fishing – 200 walleye, 200 crappie. Sandy Hollow 200 crappie and 150 perch. Boyden Bruce Schomaker area 150 crappie, 50 perch and 100 walleye. Hawarden Big Sioux recreation area 600 walleye and 1100 perch.

The work on the ponds at Sandy Hollow is coming along very nice along with several other updates being done to the recreation area. Thanks to our Sioux County Conservation for making this area another recreational “HOT” spot in our county.

Excitement keeps building for the new Nature Center that will be constructed at Oak Grove Park. The Sioux County Conservation Foundation is working hard to raise the remaining $1.2 million needed to secure a $600,000 Enhancement Iowa grant. Go to the Sioux County Conservation website for information or call 712-552-1047 about this great project.

A big hello to everyone from the Board of the Sioux County Sportsmen’s Club.  It has been an exciting year for everyone to be able to celebrate 20 years of the club’s organization.

First of all we would like to thank everyone who has been a part of the Sioux County Sportsmen’s club over the last 20 years. Here is a very interesting list of accomplishments over the last 20 years of where all of your proceeds are going to.

  1. Over the last 20 years SCSC has spent $776,393 helping with the acquisition of 2146 acres. Go and check these public grounds out. They are quite impressive. Also if you get a chance, thank the Sioux County Conservation for maintaining these grounds and as always leave these grounds cleaner than when you came.
  2. Over the last 20 years SCSC has spent $97,850 just on kids. This would be events, gifts and prizes for events, youth education events, etc. Remember this is all for the kids and there future in the outdoors.
  3. Over the last 20 years SCSC has spent $31,150 for stocking fish in our ponds throughout Sioux County. Go out and spend time with your kids, grandkids or take other kids out to these places.

All of these accomplishments are done only with all of you as members, businesses, sponsors, volunteers and board members. We all have something very special in our county that will always be there for our future generations.

Our 20th anniversary banquet was once again very successful. This year we have cleared around $63,000. Once again thanks to all of you who made this a great success.

Our 2018 banquet has not quite been set yet. Keep looking at our website at www.siouxcsc.org for an update on the banquet. This will be posted shortly. If anyone has questions or ideas for our banquet please contact one of the board members so we can address that at our board meetings.

Greetings to all outdoorsmen and women!

This coming year, 2017, marks the 20th anniversary of the Sioux County Sportsmen’s Club. Can you believe it’s been 20 years? Amazing all the things accomplished in 20 years with land acquisitions, updates and improvements to public ground and property, fish stocking programs, youth events etc. All of these accomplishments are able to be done ONLY because of all of you as members, sponsors, businesses and individual donars. Because of all of you the future for our youth in the outdoors and conservation is preserved for all to enjoy.

Again this year we kids events that were a great success.

Land Update

This fall the public ground west of Matlock known as the Doorenbos piece was opened for public hunting. The signage is up and parking area put in.

Again this year the Sioux County Conservation Board has been buisy stocking our local ponds. The Big Sioux Rec. Area – 600 walleye, 1900 crappie, 200 bluegill, 100 catfish. Winterfield pond – 100 walleye, 200 crappie. Bruce Shoemaker Rec. Area – 100 walleye, 200 crappie. Sandy Hollow – 150 crappie,200 perch, 200 bluegill, 50 catfish. Floyd River Wildlife Area B – 100 perch, 100 bluegill. Vande Weerde pit – 100 perch, 50 catfish.

Hello to all the outdoor enthusiasts! My apologies for getting this out so late, but we have a few things going on this summer to make you aware of along with an update about the past banquet held in March.

Thanks to all of you the banquet was once again a huge success! We cleared around $61,000!! We cannot express enough thanks for the loyal support from all the members and businesses in the area for believing in what is being done in Sioux County! THANK YOU!

We have set March 11, 2017, for the 20th Annual SCSC Banquet! Yes, you read that correctly! Next year we will be celebrating 20 years! If anyone has any ideas on ways we could make this the biggest and best banquet yet, please don’t hesitate to be in touch with one of our board members. We are always open to considering new ideas!

We are hoping to finalize details so that the 67 acres west of Matlock will be open for hunting this fall. Please keep an eye out for signs or check with board members to find out if the land is open to the public.

Once again we had different events this past summer for kids and had great attendance!

• The attendance for Outdoor Skills Day was once again outstanding! 300 kids were involved this year which exceeding all expectations! It’s great to see kids want to experience the outdoors and learn skills needed for outdoor activities.

• The annual Kids Fishing Day involved almost 140 kids and adults. Thanks to the Sioux County Conservation Board for their help with this event!

Land Update:

The Sioux County Conservation Board has continued to do a great job of stocking area ponds. Moeller’s Pit was stocked with 100 catfish, 200 blue gill and 100 crappie. Winterfeld Pit was filled with 150 walleye, 200 perch and 400 crappie. The Big Sioux Recreation Area was recently stocked with 550 walleyes, 600 perch, and 1000 crappie. Several hundred walleye, catfish, blue gill, perch and crappies were spread between the Sandy Hollow pond, Boyden, Alton, and Vande Weerd Pits.

Gun Calendar:

Don’t miss out on getting another gun calendar! The board has started selling the 2016 gun calendars. A gun will be drawn every Wednesday in 2016 for a total of 52 guns to be given away! Contact any board member from SCSC or go to our website for local businesses that carry the calendars.

The board has been starting to plan the upcoming banquet to be held on March 12, 2016. It will once again be held at the Dordt College Recreation Center.

Hello to all the outdoor enthusiasts! We have a few things going on this summer to make you aware of

along with an update about the past banquet held in March.

Thanks to all of you the banquet was once again a huge success! We cleared around $55,000!! We

cannot express enough thanks for the loyal support from all the members and businesses in the area for

believing in what is being done in Sioux County! THANK YOU!

Outdoor Skills Day

This will be held on June 4, from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Oak Grove. There is a noon lunch provided.

This day is open to all ages. There are different sessions to choose from….shotgun shooting, air rifles,

archery, outdoor cooking, improving outdoor skills and much more. You must preregister by calling

Sunday Ford (7125523057).

Family Fishing Clinic

This event, sponsored by Sioux County Conservation Board and the Sioux County Sportsmen’s Club will

be held on Saturday, June 13, from 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Sandy Hollow fishing pond. Come for a

fun filled morning of fishing instruction. There will be prizes!! Bring your own pole. **There will be some

available if you don’t have one. Lunch will be provided at noon for those who participate. To register

please call Sunday Ford (7125523057).

We still have calendars available to purchase if you are interested. As a reminder, each calendar sold

will be tied to a specific number. Each week of the year a number will be drawn to win that week’s gun.

Each calendar can be purchased for $30. Calendars will be sold until we are out of them. If you are

Greetings to all outdoorsmen and women!

This summer we had a couple different events for kids…

  • Outdoor Skills Day – 220+ kids attended again for the third year in a row! This continues to exceed our expectations! It’s great to see them want to experience the outdoors and learn skills needed for outdoor activities.
  • 30 kids along with their parents braved the June rain to participate in the annual Kids Fishing Day. Thanks to the Sioux County Conservation Board for their help with this event!

Land Update

The Sioux County Conservation Board stocked Boyden Pit with 50 walleye and 100 perch. Sandy Hollow was filled with 250 blue gill and 100 perch. The Dunlap Pit with 100 bass, 250 blue gill and 100 perch. Winterfeld Pit with 200 walleye and 100 perch. The Big Sioux Recreation Area was also stocked (no numbers available). There will also be 1500 crappies that will be spread throughout the county in the near future.

Gun Calendar

MAY 2014 NEWSLETTER

Fish stocking in Sioux County Public Waters

The Sioux County Sportsmen’s Club donated funds to be used in stocking of fish in several Sioux County

ponds. Crappie, perch, catfish and walleye were distributed between the Big Sioux rec area, Alton

Borrow Pit, and the Winterfeld Pit in Rock Valley. Catfish were also distributed among most of the other

ponds in Sioux County. More fish will be ordered in July to stock other Sioux County waters in October.

 

Land Update

We recently purchased 67 acres west of Matlock that will tie into the public piece already there. This

piece will not be open for use until all the grants are finalized.

Sandy Hollow

Beginning May 1, Sandy Hollow will still be available for public use, but will be under the control of the

Sioux County Conservation Board. We will be looking for volunteers on work days to help with clean up

and project improvements. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page or check with one of the board

members for upcoming work dates.

The Big Sioux River Cleanup will be happening from July 1219 beginning in Sioux Falls, SD down to
